Named for the wind that defines our EolaAmity Hills AVA, the Æolian Pinot Noir is our vehicle to explore the dynamic evolving landscape that we farm. The sense of place and specificity that we value most highly in our wines takes many years to evolve. With our oldest vines we allow each block to speak for itself in a separate bottling. The second-generation vines at Bethel Heights, on the other hand, are just beginning to find their voice. In these years in between, the Æolian allows us the freedom to dream of what lies beyond the horizon.
The 2022 Aeolian presents both purity and power; aromas of red cherry, rhubarb and raspberry, tremendous tension through the mid palate, and delicate fine grain tannins through the finish.

The Acid Freak is a creature born from laziness and lack of space. In the midst of a late fateful night at the winery pressing off some Riesling, the holding tank was about to overflow. There was extra juice in the press pan but nowhere to put it. Rather than clean a new receptacle, we glanced over and spied a half barrel of fermenting Dolcetto rosé. We said “F*** it, there is Riesling in Piedmont.”
The Acid Freak is now a staple of every Libertine vintage. It is both an homage to insane co-fermented blends that make no sense and “DO YOU HEAR THAT SOUND FROM THE PALM TREES RIGHT NOW?!?”
Like all other Libertine wines, it was wild yeast fermented in neutral oak. Other than a very small amount of sulfite, absolutely nothing was added to this wine. Unfiltered and unfined.

North by Northwest was founded in 2005 by the King family with the vision to handcraft varietally pure wines from the finest vineyards in Walla Walla Valley and Columbia Valley AVAs, which straddle the border of Washington and Oregon. They partner with like-minded vineyard owners, with an eye on sustainable vineyard practices. The guiding principle is simple: produce a quality wine, for wine lovers.
Smooth and round entrance. Lush ripe fruit and well-integrated tannins dominate the mid-palate. The finish shows subtle earth characters behind the fruit with solid length.

Their three estate vineyards are located on the iron rich volcanic slopes and sedimentary seabeds of the Willamette Valley Appellation. Each of these three sites reflect a distinct “sense of place” that blend to create a Pinot Noir with wonderful perfume, richness of mouthfeel, complexity and balance.
All vineyards are Certified Sustainable - LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology) and Salmon-Safe.

The 2021 Estate Pinot Noir reflects the multifaceted nature of the vintage: the abundance of fruit from our early picks under sunny skies and the earthen complexity they found from the older vines picked in cooler October weather. Blending the Estate is often the most difficult task because it is their largest bottling each vintage, and thus includes both the successes and shortcomings. Thanks to diligent farming from our vineyard team, attention to detail, and a fantastic winemaking team for harvest, the 2021 Estate Pinot Noir contains only successes.
