Perhaps most associated with the “M” in the time-honored GSM blends of the Southern Rhone, Mourvedre has finally begun to emerge from the shadow cast by the better known “G” and “S”. Make no mistake, when left to its own devices, Mourvedre can truly astonish! A feral shell of game meat, jerky and leather encloses a remarkably elegant core of dried cranberry and blueberry. Repeated sniffs and whiffs will be like raiding your spice cabinet with subtle notes of toasted fennel, red chili flakes, peppercorn and star anise.
