Natalie's Estate Winery

Nestled away just outside the city limits of Newberg, Oregon sits Natalie’s Estate Winery overlooking their 4 acre vineyard. Far from novices and named after their daughter who was merely a year old at the time, Boyd and Cassandra Teegarden established Natalie’s in 1999. Boyd started his career working for the E&J Gallo Winery in 1989 before making his way to Oregon before collaborating with owner Lonnie Wright at The Pines in The Dalles, Oregon in 1999. The Winery has grown exponentially during that time building the winery and tasting room in 2003 to move all winery operations to the vineyard.

The focus surrounds not only the vast array of Full-Bodied Reds, but the artistic wine labels and tasting room memorabilia. An art gallery owned by Cassandra’s mother while growing up in Manhattan Beach. California resonated while building the tasting room. She wanted an artistic approach to the labels and tasting room to tie into the artisan approach to making wine. She did this by working with local artists Lance Morrison and Brett Lawrence to produce art pieces for the tasting room which she then developed into their levels consisting of a hummingbird and horse. Artistry seems to run in the family including Cassandra’s grandmother who was an actress in the silent movie era. You will find signed autograph headshots and photographs from film clips dated back to the 1930’s. A mirrored bar top in is a focal point of conversation where such guests as Betty White, John Wayne, Lucelle Ball, Buster Kenton, Jack Dempsey and even The Rat Pack (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr) have enjoyed evenings of conversation and laughter. To sit and taste deep reds paired with a charcuterie board surrounded by a step back into the movie past feels nostalgic to say the least.

As for the grapes themselves, the property is the curator of several Pinot Noir bottlings and a Rose of Pinot Noir. For the big reds, Cabernet Sauvignon to Zinfandel, they work with vineyards located in the Columbia Valley both on the Oregon and Washington side of the AVA. Only when the thought my experience was complete I was introduced to their 2016 Meritage, a Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, that was purchased personally for a later date, a must! The owners and assistants are not only boots in the dirt, but hands on delivering your tasting experience. Natalie’s Estate Winery truly is a “Must Go To” when in the Newberg area!
