This Vermentino was grafted in 2009 onto the only vines growing in red volcanic soils at Layne Vineyard in the Applegate Valley. The grapes were destemmed and soaked for 36 hours, then pressed and transferred into an elliptical concrete tank (The "Hippo") for fermentation and aging. The wine spent ten months on lees, building texture and complexity with a subtle influence from the concrete.
